The course is aimed at anyone who creates information as part of their role. It could be marketing materials, policies, reports or letters. Those in Marketing and Communications roles will find this course particularly useful.

Hidden Accessibility: How to create accessible documents

This course covers practical steps required to make your electronic documents accessible.

During this course you will learn

  • About “hidden accessibility”, the unseen structure behind documents which affects how they are accessed and interpreted by computer software
  • How to create accessible documents, thinking about structure, images, graphs and tables
  • About the accessibility features of Word documents, PDFs and PowerPoint presentations
  • How to create accessible templates for use in your organisation
  • How to test document accessibility using in-built checks

The session involves a mixture of presentation and practical exercises using Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat. We provide course notes and exercises for Word 2007, 2010 and 2016.

The course is aimed at anyone who creates information as part of their job role. It could be marketing materials, policy documents, reports, letters or e-newsletters.

Requirements

Attendees are required to bring laptops on the day. We do have a limited number of additional laptops available, requests can be made for these in advance.

On-line Training

Accessible Information Awareness

This is a basic raising awareness course which highlights the barriers to accessing information, the importance of making your information accessible and provides some good practice guidelines.

Hidden Accessibility

The purpose of this course is to raise awareness about the importance of ensuring that your electronic information is accessible to screen-reading software designed for people with a visual impairment who are unable to see the screen or use a mouse or other pointing device.

Registration

Individuals can register for the first course and complete it at their own pace. On completion, they will then be eligible to register for and complete the second course. To register, please submit your details below.

Please do not register for a second course until you have received your login details for your first course.
